Rhythms of Life

posted in Updates on 12/29/2009 - 0 Comments

As Novation Church takes shape, we are beginning to see the word “church” not as a noun, but as a verb.  Church isn’t somewhere we go, but it is a lifestyle we lead, a lifestyle of connecting with God and with others.

This lifestyle is centered on Jesus Christ.  As with any lifestyle, there are two parts that make up the whole: personal and public.  Both one’s personal and public life are comprised of schedules, routines, habits, and activities.  These things create the rhythm of one’s life.

Novation Church is made up of people who have committed to doing life together, allowing the rhythms of our lives to connect us to God and to each other in order that we might see God’s kingdom be realized in both our private lives and in our community.

Personal Rhythms

Grow in your relationship with God: through prayer, Scripture, journaling, quiet, etc.

Invest in yourself

View God at work in your world

Establish goals for your future

Public Rhythms

Speak/send encouragement to one Novation person daily

Pray for three Novation people daily

Attend a Novation Cell Gathering weekly

Connect with two Novation people to share a meal weekly

Engage with one person in or toward the Nova Conversation weekly

These rhythms are designed with two thoughts in mind. First, to be general enough to not be seen as legalistic, allowing each member of Novation Church to live out his/her life in a unique relationship with God.  Second, to be specific enough to create intentionality – a life lived without specific intention is a life that will not realize its potential.

The Two Greatest Things

As a church, Novation is passionate about being students of God’s word and submissive to God’s Spirit.  We have learned that neither will lead us astray.

Open Mic Night @ FOAM

It has become a rhythm of a number of Novation people to hang out at Foam on Cherokee Street (@ Jefferson Ave) on Wednesday nights from 9:00 to 11:00pm for the weekly Open Mic Night.  It is not a Novation sponsored event; but, it is a time that we can celebrate the variety and talent in our community.  You just might hit one of the nights that the Novation Lead Pastor does some poetry.

Stop by FOAM anytime during the week for great coffee, and a laid back atmosphere.  You will be glad you did – and tell them David & Sherri sent you.

Novation Home Gatherings

The heart and soul of Novation Church is our Home Gatherings.

Each week, the individuals and families that are connected with Novation Church meet in homes around South St. Louis City in much the same way the Early Church did - focusing on the teachings of the Apostles contained in the Scripture.  Currently the groups are journeying through Paul’s first epistle to the church in the 1st century city of Corinth (1 Corinthians).

To get more information on the time and location of the Home Gatherings, email  Life@NovationChurch.com

The Pastor’s Blogs

David Godbout, Lead Pastor of Novation Church, has a few blogs you might be interested in.

Since before his granddaughter Alexa was born, David has been writing her notes; the hope is that as she grows up and begins to experience life, these notes will be a guide and an inspiration.

Ever wonder what goes through the mind and heart of a pastor?  David delights in sharing his thoughts in a blog entitled, “Spiritual Musings.”

Desiring to be connected  to the world and the community in which Novation Church exists, David writes weekly concerning the growth, change and development of South St. Louis City.  The goal is to give a spiritual perspective to the world in which we live.

Introducing Novation Church

Novation Church is a new church/faith community that has begun in South City St. Louis, just beginning the development of its philosophy and process**.

Novation seeks to create a church that reflects the diversity and greatness of God as represented by the diversity and greatness of the communities that make up South City St. Louis.

The hope is that the residents of the South City neighborhoods will contribute their voices, personalities and talents to the formation of the new church.

The overall desire of Novation Church is to create a community of people who are a genuine expression of the body of Christ on a local level….in other words, to create a structure through which people can BE the church, not to coordinate an event so that people can simply GO to church.

**“Process” refers to the structure and steps by which individuals and families can both fully connect with the church and continually develop in their knowledge and experience as followers of Jesus Christ.
